Reading Derby Girls Skate for Two Extraordinary Causes

It’s a Bird! It’s a Plane! … It’s a Derby Girl? That’s right, Reading Derby Girls! On July 21, 2013 Reading Derby Girls will host a Superhero-themed sports event to raise money for two local families in need of superhero-sized miracles.

This action-packed bout featuring two of the league’s teams, the D’Railers vs, the Bombshell Brawlers, will take place at Skateaway in Shillington at 2PM. The family-friendly event will be geared towards children as players take to the track during the event.

While the event will surely be a blast for all who attend, the Reading Derby Girls hope to bring relief and rescue to two serious battles. Proceeds will support two charities, Team Laney and Hope for an Angel.

Team Laney is a network of families and friends of Delaney Brown, a 7-year old who is diagnosed with AML Leukemia, a rare and aggressive form of cancer. Hope for an Angel benefits Angelique Boston, an 11-year old who is awaiting a double lung and bone marrow transplant due to Severe Combined Immunodeficiency Disorder (SCID).

Both girls reside in Berks County and are battling for their lives. Attendees are encouraged to wear orange to show support for Team Laney and zebra print to show support for Hope for an Angel.

“We are honored to have the opportunity to bring our community together to support these extraordinary causes,” says league president Holly Jester a.k.a. Hollywood Crush-ya. “Both girls need our help and we are so excited that our passion, the sport of roller derby, can contribute to the solution.”
