Reading Derby Girls Celebrate 10 years of Roller Derby

READING, Nov. 10, 2022 – Reading Derby Girls (RDG), sports league out of Shillington is excited to announce a celebration of ten years in the sport of roller derby. On November 25, 2012, the league held their first intra-league game – a Friends & Family bout – featuring newly trained skaters in a fun mixer style game to exhibit the athleticism and fun of the newly founded team.

This Sunday, November 13 they are taking the track in another mixer-style game featuring skaters from past seasons, the current season, and guest skaters to mark the occasion. Doors open at 6:30pm and the game begins at 7:00pm. Tickets for the game are available online at universe.com/rdgderbygirls or at the door.

In 2023, January 17 – February 22, the Reading Derby Girls host a recruitment event for individuals looking to join the league. Skating experience is not required.

RDG’s Founder Holly Jester stated:
“I didn’t know what derby was and I fell in love with it, and here we are. I came back for my ten-year anniversary because I started this thing and I think it’s only fair if I’m here. I’m really excited to be back with the girls, for one more time.”

February 7, 2020 – The Reading Derby Girls have announced their 2020 season* schedule through social media and their website. The league has coordinated a variety of visiting teams to play in their seventh season traveling within the region. The team has also invited many local teams to host at their home rink, Skateaway Shillington in Shillington, Pennsylvania.

Season Passes are available so that you never have to miss a home game! See pass options.

All home games are on Sundays at 7:00pm, with doors opening at 6:30pm at Skateaway Shillington, located at 2275 Lancaster Pike, in Shillington Pennsylvania. A printable PDF of the new schedule is available for download here.

Reading, Pennsylvania – The Reading Derby Girls (RDG) are excited to announce that they have a new recruitment program starting in 2020. The boot-camp style program includes four weeks of on-skates training with experienced team skaters and trainers leading the way. Previously, they had a rolling recruitment option with a year-round program on every Wednesday. The new concentrated program provides more practice times and shorter graduation times to becoming a team member with the hopes to increase their membership and grow the league. Early-bird registration begins on Black Friday, November 29, the cost increases after January 1. The boot camp begins January 7 and runs through January 31 with practices occurring on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday nights. Skaters looking to transfer are also welcome at their 2020 recruitment program and can email readingderbygirls@gmail.com for details.

Reading Derby Girls have also announced a new practice schedule which now include Tuesday & Wednesday nights from 8:30p-10:30p and the occasional Friday from 10:00p-12:00a. This new practice schedule at Skateaway allows for more convenient practice times and an improved training schedule.

Reading Derby Girls – Public Ranking Announced

Reading Derby Girls ranked at 177

Reading, Pennsylvania – The Reading Derby Girls (RDG) are proud to announce today that the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) has released rankings on April 30, 2018 with Reading sitting at 177 among 450+ leagues worldwide.

The Reading Derby Girls are heading to Maryland on Saturday, May 19 to appear in their first double header with both their A and B level teams against Salisbury Rollergirls. Their next home game will be on Sunday, June 10 featuring the Brandywine Brawlers and the Reading Derby Girls B team.

Reading Derby Girls extended full membership in the WFTDA

Reading Derby Girls Accepted as Women’s Flat Track Derby Member

Reading, Pennsylvania – The Reading Derby Girls (RDG) are proud to announce today that the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA) has extended full membership to the league after being an apprentice league for 18 months.

“The Reading Derby Girls are delighted to be a member of the WFTDA and strive to be a competitive league that provides a space for skaters to become strong, athletic, and be a part of a growing community.”

On July 12, 2017 the WFTDA announced that with these most recent graduates, the WFTDA’s member league total has surpassed the 400 mark. “We’re proud of how much we have grown as an organization since beginning with just a handful of leagues in 2005 and are looking forward to the continued development of the sport and the WFTDA community.”

The new Class C members can now enjoy the benefits of full WFTDA membership, including competing in sanctioned games and becoming eligible for rankings. This group of new members includes leagues from the United States, Europe, and New Zealand.

The WFTDA now has 405 member leagues and 41 apprentice leagues. Congratulations to:
